A Giant Leap, A Hiccup, and Everything Else

Finally! A few years ago, one of my cousins told me that I should start posting videos of what I do on YouTube. I told her I didn't think I could do it. She said if people could post videos of their cats and get followers, then certainly, my work would get followers as well.

I'm sure cat-lovers will have something to say about that but fast forward to 2022 and here I am. It was a giant leap to make the decision to create online classes. I also had to bite the bullet and invest in the WAIM coaching classes with Jason and Caroline Zook just so I could have some accountability with this project AND get a lifetime subscription to the Teachery platform. Teachery is where my classes are hosted.

The About Page is where I explained a few more things specially where the hiccup happened but this post is really about announcing the launch of my first ever online class.

The class is not a really easy one so I do mention that it's for patient and persistent beginners. Air-dry clay can be easy to work with depending on what you're making. The more detailed your work is, the trickier it can be. But, as with all art materials, the more you work with it, the easier it gets. The easy part though is that since it's a kind of doodle, you can take any direction you want with your sculpt. I use minimal details on the sculpt in this lesson.

For me, the whole process of filming and editing was both fun and trying. I struggled with the contraption that held my phone. It's an Amazon buy that is part sturdy and part floppy. Then there was the whole thing about remembering that the camera was pointing at. certain area on my table. I found myself having to redo some parts where I forgot and brought the piece closer so I could see better.

Then I had to figure out the whole editing process which I was able to do on iMovie, thankfully. I started out with captions but it got to a point where just captions wouldn't be enough. In the beginning, I felt like hearing my own voice was a cringe-worthy experience but just as I did with seeing my arthritic fingers, I forced myself to get over it.

There's still a lot of back and forth happening in terms of getting the whole branding details across the platforms. Because of the Instagram hack, I've had to switch out my brand name and images. I still have some monetteinthestudio logos hanging out somewhere for sure but I'm getting things sorted out a little at a time.

That's it for this blog. I now have to hop over to Flodesk to switch out the logo and inform my subscribers about the changes. I started out today by doing research on the right sizes and aspect ratios for a Pinterest Idea pin. That's when I realized I hadn't made the branding changes. That meant a visit to Canva, then Teachery, and even YouTube. So the Pinterest project hasn't been done, but I'm getting there!
